Nobody Wants This’ star Jackie Tohn recently revealed she had a preventative double mastectomy – and she got through it by having a goodbye party for her “tatas”!
Surrounded by loved ones, including costars Kristen Bell, Justine Lupe and Adam Brody, the “Ta Ta to Jackie’s Tatas” party was held in November last year. In a post on socials Jackie said, “Laughing and celebrating (and crying so unbelievably much) is the only way I know how to get through stuff. I come from a long line of wiseass survivors. Proud to join their ranks.”
Speaking with People, Jackie said she made the decision to have surgery after her father was diagnosed with metastatic carcinoma early last year. It was his diagnosis that prompted her to undergo genetic testing: “I found out I was BRCA1 positive and then I met a genetic counsellor who informed me that I had an 85% chance of getting breast cancer and a 65% chance of developing ovarian cancer.”
According to the publication, Jackie plans on having surgery on her ovaries too.

Her story is somewhat similar to Angelina Jolie’s who penned a powerful essay for the New York Times in 2013 where she opened up about her own preventive surgeries – a double mastectomy and the removal of her ovaries and Fallopian tubes: ‘I carry a ‘faulty’ gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.”
Angelina’s mother, Marcheline, had passed away from breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.
According to the World Health Organisation, 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women every year, and over 600,000 of them lose their lives to the disease every year too.
