Will Josh Heuston play Xaden in the Fourth Wing series? Everything we know

Bestselling book series Fourth Wing is officially heading to TV screens, and an Aussie could very well have the starring role.

At its Upfront event in New York this week, Prime Video announced the series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ “romantasy” novels, which follow 20-year-old Violet as she trains to become a dragon rider.

Fans have long speculated about what a series could look like, and one name has always risen to the top for the role of Xaden, the primary love interest – Australian actor Josh Heuston, 29.

The Aussie heartthrob, who has also starred in Heartbreak High and Dune: Prophecy, was coincidentally at the event promoting another project, upcoming Prime series Off Campus.

Unsurprisingly, he was asked about the rumours on the red carpet and remained very coy.

“The books are amazing, and I love fantasy and everything involved in that genre so who knows?” he told People.

Asked whether it was a project he’d be interested in, Heuston simply said: “I guess we’ll find out”.

He gave another sly response to CinemaBlend, saying he was “open to doing things in general” in the romantasy space.

While he has not officially confirmed or denied the casting, those who are looking have found plenty of signs Heuston is at the very least playing into the speculation.

Among them is a dragon emoji in his Instagram bio. He was also spotted reading Onyx Storm, the newest book in the series, at an airport in February 2025.

No official casting has been announced, but fans will be waiting with bated breath now that the series has been officially confirmed.

The series’ author Rebecca Yarros will executive produce the show, which does not yet have a release date.

Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan also has his hands on the project, executive producing through his production company Outlier Society.
