Legendary rocker Sting has revealed why he still won’t leave his multi-million dollar fortune to his six children.
In an interview with CBS News’ Sunday Morning, the 74-year-old English singer explained his strong stance.
He believes telling a child “you don’t have to work” is one of the worst things a parent can do.
“[It’s] a form of abuse that I hope I’m never guilty of,” said the Roxanne hitmaker, per PEOPLE.
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t supporting them.
The Police frontman, born Gordon Sumner, has sold over 100 million records and has an estimated net worth of $US550 million ($759 million).
He shares two adult children, Joseph, 49, and Fuchsia, 44, with his first wife Irish actress Frances Tomelty, who he married in the ’70s.

In 1992, Sting went onto marry his current wife of 34 years, actress and producer Trudie Styler. They share four children: Mickey, 42, Jake, 40, Eliot, 35, and youngest Giacomo, 30.
The singer said all of his kids have been “blessed with this extraordinary work ethic”, whether because it’s in their DNA or through the hard work the dad has instilled in them.
“I’m paying for your education. You’ve got shoes on your feet. Go to work,'” Sting said of his parenting philosophy.
“That’s not cruel. I think that’s there’s there’s a kindness there and a trust in them that they will make their own way. They’re tough, my kids.”
Sting has said in previous interviews his kids “rarely ask” for anything, which he “really respects”. He wants them to succeed on their own merit.
While he never aimed to have a big family, he has described his children as the “happiest accidents” of his life.
“I never intended to be a dad,” Sting admitted to People.
“I became a dad by accident six times — that’s how smart I am”.
