Song secure in bantamweight rankings after beating another ex-champ

Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo fought on Saturday in a meeting of top-10 bantamweights, and while Song secured his No. 7 position in the ESPN divisional rankings, Figueiredo fell only one spot to No. 9 with the second-round submission loss.

It was Song’s fourth straight fight against a former UFC champion, and he is 2-2 in those contests. At 28 years old, the Chinese fighter has time to make up ground among 135-pound contenders.

Figueiredo, who is 38 and a former UFC men’s flyweight champion, has lost four of his past five fights — all against high-level contenders.

The small shift at men’s bantamweight is the only change in the latest ESPN divisional rankings. Ranked heavyweight Sergei Pavlovich scored a 39-second knockout of Tallison Teixeira during Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Macau, China, but he does not move up from his No. 5 spot.

Here are the ESPN pound-for-pound MMA rankings and a list of current UFC champions in all weight classes.

Results are current; rankings as of June 2. To be eligible for the rankings, a fighter must have competed over the past 12 months or must have an upcoming fight booked. Fighters who have been dropped for inactivity can be reinstated only after they compete.
