Sarah Jessica Parker has admitted she would have worn whatever the Sex and the City costume designers wanted her to – regardless of how “insane” the TV outfits were.

The actress starred as Carrie Bradshaw in the beloved US show, which ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2004, with her on-screen alter ego famous for the unique, often eccentric, ensembles she put together.
In an interview with People, Sarah said that when it came to working with lead costume designer Patricia Field and designer Molly Rogers ahead of shooting, there were no boundaries.
Speaking about the fittings, she said: “It would be 2 or 3 or 4am, and we had just finished shooting, and I was in a fitting and they would have some of the most insane stuff.
“There are Polaroids. There is documentation of these things. I would put anything on for them, because you never know.”
Among Carrie’s most famous outfits from the programme are the white tutu skirt she wears in the credits, and the bird headpiece she donned ahead of her wedding to Chris Noth’s Mr Big.
Sarah added that the late night, early morning fittings were “just so ridiculous”, laughing: “It was so much fun, and none of us had kids, none of us had to run home for any reason.
She insisted: “I will absolutely put anything on for Molly Rogers.”
Likewise, Molly – who won an Emmy award in 2002 for her work on the show – would go to extraordinary lengths in order to find unique outfits for the Sex and the City characters to wear.
Sarah explained: “She’s like, ‘There’s a woman. I met a woman. She’s in Albany.’ It’s true. She’d go into people’s homes… Digging through some stuff in an attic in Albany or Georgia or somewhere outside London!”
Despite being enormously proud of the ensembles that did make it onto the screen, Molly – who most recently worked as a costume designer on The Devil Wears Prada 2 – also admitted that there were numerous looks that ended up on the cutting room floor.
She told Fashionphile: “It is astounding. My favourite pieces did not get into that television series.”
