Olivia Wilde reacts as wild video of her face sparks criticism: ‘A startling image’

Olivia Wilde wants it on record that she’s very much alive.

The actor and director, 42, has responded to criticism of her appearance after “startling” footage of her at the San Francisco Film Festival went viral.

She shared a video to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, answering a very brutal question from her younger brother, Charles Cockburn.

“Olivia Wilde, do you care to address recent rumours that you’re a resurrected corpse?” he asked.

The video was edited to place a photo of Wilde from the now-infamous red carpet with SFGate alongside Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

“Listen, that is a fisheye lens,” the star said, laughing.

“And I admit, is that my best angle? Was that my best-ever look? No. No, it’s startling. It’s a startling image.”

The Don’t Worry Darling director insisted it was the lens that led to the strange look, but conceded there was another problem.

“I don’t know why I was so close to the camera. I didn’t have to be. That’s not the truth,” she continued.

“Do you have any more questions?” she asked, before adding, “I’m not dead.”

Posting the video online, Wilde poked fun yet again, writing: “Leave it to your little brother to give you the maximum amount of shit.”

After the viral interview was posted online, the comments section erupted about her appearance.

While many criticised the camera angle, others asked, “What happened to her?”

Wilde was at the event promoting her latest film, The Invite, which opened the festival.

Starring Seth Rogan, Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton and herself, it is an adaptation of Spanish film The People Upstairs exploring two couples in very different places.
