Natalie Imbruglia Announces Details Of New Album ‘Algorithm’

Natalie Imbruglia has announced her seventh studio album, ‘Algorithm’, marking a confident new chapter in a career that has continually evolved since her late-’90s breakthrough. Set for release on Friday, September 4th 2026, the record arrives five years after 2021’s ‘Firebird’ and signals a more self-directed creative approach, with Imbruglia co-writing and co-producing the project in its entirety.

Alongside the announcement, Natalie’s unveiled the album’s lead single, ‘Upside Down’, an emotionally charged yet sonically buoyant track that blends shimmering synths with crisp guitar lines. It’s a sound that feels both contemporary and rooted in the melodic sensibilities that first defined her work, but with a deeper sense of perspective.

Co-produced by Anu Pillai (N*E*R*D, The Killers), the life-affirming pop bop leans into themes of vulnerability and resilience, exploring the limits of self-reliance and the importance of seeking support during difficult periods. The track builds from introspective verses into a soaring, cathartic chorus, reflecting a broader emotional arc that appears central to ‘Algorithm’ as a whole.

Upside Down – Natalie Imbruglia

The album itself is said to have emerged from a challenging period in Imbruglia’s life, one that pushed her to confront mental health struggles more directly. Rather than shying away from that experience, she has channeled it into a body of work that aims to transform uncertainty into clarity – and darkness into something more hopeful.

Collaborators on the record include a mix of established songwriters and producers, though the defining characteristic of ‘Algorithm’ is Natalie’s increased creative control. The result, by early indications, is a project that feels both intimate and expansive: personal in its subject matter, but polished and accessible in its execution.

Commenting on the LP, the ‘Torn’ singer says: “On this record I chose to work with collaborators who also co-produce so from start to finish we were all so invested in every song. I really hope that people get as much joy from listening to this record as we did making it. And that they dance their arses off.”

“This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a record. It also happened to coincide with the most challenging time I’ve had with my mental health. This is the beauty of music and artistic expression. You can take something dark and turn it into light.”

Imbruglia is to return to the stage in support of the album, with festival appearances across the UK and Europe already lined up and further live dates anticipated.

Nearly three decades after ‘Torn’ introduced her to a global audience, Imbruglia’s latest era doesn’t lean on nostalgia so much as it reframes it. ‘Algorithm’ positions her not as an artist revisiting past successes, but as one continuing to refine her voice – both musically and emotionally – on her own terms.
