Exclusive: “He’ll love that!” Melanie C quips as I muse that Cruz Beckham’s new music is reminiscent of The Beatles’ vibe.
“Beatles are his big thing.”
In February, Spice Girls fans around the world were sent into meltdown when a video emerged of the iconic girl group’s members singing a rendition of their hit Viva Forever with Victoria Beckham’s youngest son strumming on his guitar.
Cruz, 21, who has just released the song For Your Love, shared the special moment on Instagram and it got hundreds of thousands of likes.
“I’m just going back to that night, because it was so off-the-cuff,” Melanie C, 52, exclusively tells nine.com.au of the now-viral moment.
“Cruz is brilliant, he’s got his own music out at the moment and is actually touring in the UK right now, and he’s always loved music.

“We had him on stage with us at Madison Square Garden, I think it was 2007/2008, and he was teeny-tiny, doing headspins.
“Talk about destiny. Music was always his focus and now he’s making great music. He’s taken his time to figure out his sound.”
Melanie C, who is celebrating the release of her new album Sweat, says the impromptu singalong came about while she and her bandmates were having dinner.
“It was so cute, that night,” she says.
“We were just having a quiet little dinner, and he comes down [the stairs] with a guitar, and we always sing a little bit of Spice Girls when Cruz has his guitar.
“We thought we sounded pretty good, we were like, ‘Yeah, you can put that on the internet, we sound alright!'”
In the video, Cruz strums on his guitar as Victoria Beckham, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell sing the ballad.
The budding musician, who recently announced tour dates, joked that his mother’s band could join him on stage in his Instagram caption.
“I think i found my openers… you think they have potential? Something exciting coming later today 😉 keep an eye out and get involved ❤️,” he wrote.
When asked whether it’s surreal to see the next generation of the Spice Girls follow in their footsteps and forge their own paths in showbiz, Melanie C described it as “amazing”.
“It’s amazing, because I probably see Phoenix, Mel B’s eldest daughter, more than I see Mel,” she says.
“She is a DJ and she does great, we were at Glasto [Glastonbury festival] together last year and we often play on the same bill.
“It is lovely … and it’s cute bumping into them out and about.”
Melanie has just released her ninth studio album, Sweat, and is going on a world tour too, with dates in Canada, the US, the UK, Asia and even Australia.

“I love making music, but the ultimate for me is being onstage,” the musician says.
“It’s that moment when you have your audience in front of you, and there’s such a connection and you’re sharing this beautiful moment, and it’s what’s always driven me.
“Now, being the master of my own destiny, I’m able to do it so much more and it makes me really happy. I will be up there having a ball.”
Of her new album, she says, “Sweat, I suppose, in a way, is very inspired by being a Spice Girl. I fully embraced my sporty side.
“I had loads of fun in the studio, musically, obviously I am a pop artist and I always will be, but I’ve been DJing for about eight years and just rekindled that love with dance and house music.
“I was a raver back in the early ’90s, and so it was really beautiful to bring those worlds closer together.”
