Lost actor Harold Perrineau claims co-star doesn’t speak to him over on-screen twist

It was one of Lost’s most shocking betrayals so much so it caused behind-the-scenes tension between two of the hit show’s central stars.

Harold Perrineau, who played fiercely protective father-of-one Michael Dawson on the long-running series, has revealed a former co-star still refuses to speak with him to this day as a result of one plot point.

Perrineau’s character was at the centre of a brutal twist in season two episode Two for the Road, killing Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros’ characters in cold blood.

To save his son Walt, Michael makes a deal with The Others, resulting in him shooting fellow Oceanic Flight 518 survivors Ana Lucia and Libby to free Ben Linus.

The pair’s abrupt exits came as a shock for audiences – and apparently also for those involved in the production.

The showrunners, Perrineau revealed, instructed him to keep the shock betrayal under wraps until the day of filming – with even Rodriguez and Watros remaining in the dark about their characters’ fates until the 11th hour.

“They rang me up and said, ‘So, he’s coming back, and here’s what he’s gonna do, and we are not telling anybody until the day we shoot it,'” he told The Independent.

The scene marked the unexpected departure of Rodriguez and Watros, with both actresses having previously been promoted to short-lived series regular status at the start of season two.

“This is really weird to say, but one of the actresses, to this day, still doesn’t talk to me – like I wrote it. I didn’t write it,” Perrineau said.

But the star stopped short of specifying which of the two actresses he was referring to, simply stating “I’m not gonna say.”

One of the middle section survivors of the ill-fated Oceanic Flight 815, Michael proved a polarising figure amongst fans.

Nearly 16 years on from the show’s series finale, many fans still debate whether his actions were justified, or inexcusable.

Though lauded as one of the most realistic of the show’s characters, he was known to make morally questionable judgements throughout his stint on the show.

Perrineau has since returned to his supernatural-mystery roots with hit show From – created by former Lost producers Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner.
