EXCLUSIVE: Lizzy Caplan (Fleishman is in Trouble, Masters of Sex) has joined the cast of Apple TV‘s The Morning Show for Season 5. She will play Gwen, a passionate and uncompromising Broadway theater director.
Caplan is the latest big-name recurring cast addition to Season 5, following Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, and Sean Hayes.

The Morning Show explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning. It explores the unique challenges faced by the women and men who carry out this daily televised ritual.
The series stars Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, who also executive produce, as well as Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm.
Season 4 took place in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of Season 3. With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives, and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.
Season 3 received 16 Emmy nominations, with Crudup landing his second Emmy Award win for his performance as Cory Ellison in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.
The Morning Show is showrun and executive produced by Charlotte Stoudt, and directed and executive produced by Mimi Leder. The series is produced by the television studio Media Res, and executive produced by Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer through Media Res, along with Stoudt and Leder. Witherspoon executive produces alongside Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, while Aniston and Kristin Hahn executive produce through Echo Films. Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft also executive produce.
Caplan most recently starred in Netflix’s six-episode conspiracy thriller Zero Day and the FX limited series Fleishman Is in Trouble, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress. She also led the Paramount+ series Fatal Attraction, for which she received a second Emmy nom, appeared in the Lionsgate thriller Cobweb, and starred in Showtime’s Masters of Sex.
Her additional TV credits include season two of Hulu’s Castle Rock, Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told, Das Boot, the sequel series to Wolfgang Petersen’s 1981 film, and the BBC comedy thriller Ill Behavior. She also starred in the cult-favorite comedy Party Down, voiced Reagan Ridley in Netflix’s animated series Inside Job, and appeared in The Class, Related, True Blood, New Girl, and Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks.
