Gordon Ramsay gives searingly honest opinion on his pal David Beckham’s culinary ability

The 59-year-old celebrity cook joked he refuses to make food for the former England captain nowadays, because his friend has become “too good” at cooking after honing his skills at culinary school in Milan.

Asked if there is some culinary competition from the former AC Milan player, 51, Gordon laughed and told The Athletic: “Unfortunately, David Beckham is a very talented chef.

“Even towards the end of his career, playing in Italy, he’d finish training in the morning and then send me these beautiful videos and pictures of his risottos from a culinary school in Milan.

“I said to him, ‘You’ve got too good. I’m not even going to cook for you anymore because, man, you know your s***!’ “

Gordon admitted David has become a “bloody good cook”, partly thanks to his “perfectionist” standards.

He explained: “David is a self-confessed perfectionist and if he’s going to cook, he wants to make sure that he is a bloody good cook. And he is.”

Gordon and David enjoy chatting about food and wine when they meet up, and the restaurateur – who has been awarded 17 Michelin stars across his career – finds such indulgence “perfect in small doses”.

He added: “We have the most amazing time when we talk about food and wine.

“That kind of indulgence in small doses is perfect.

“Understanding how to match a great wine with a great risotto. Understanding how to cook an amazing pasta.”

Gordon recently insisted David and his wife, Victoria Beckham, are “good parents”.

His comments came amid a Beckham family feud with their son Brooklyn Beckham.

Speaking in February, Gordon – who has been married to wife Tana Ramsay since 1996 – told The Sun: “I’ve seen first-hand just how good parents they are. David as a dad is just incredible. They’ve both put so much energy into their kids, and I know just how many times they’ve got Brooklyn out of the s***.

“I think it’s going to be a matter of time before Brooklyn takes a good look at himself and understands just what his parents mean to him.

“Time’s going to be the best healer, and David will absolutely get that relationship back on track.

“Victoria and Tana have spoken a lot. They are probably closer than ever – they’re like two peas in a pod, those two. She has offered lots of support.”
