Fresh off a triumphant UK tour, Denise Van Outen dives back into her musical DNA with ‘In The Evening’ – a high-voltage rework of Sheryl Lee Ralph’s 1984 club classic. It’s a slick, pulse-driven revival that doesn’t just nod to the past, it detonates it, primed to light up dance floors all summer long.
Produced by Ian Bland, the track serves as the latest musical release from Van Outen following the launch of her debut album ‘A Bit Of Me’ – a collection of intimate interpretations of timeless songs, lovingly reimagined for a new chapter in her career.
Commenting on her love of being in the studio and recording new music, Denise told CelebMix last year: “Working on the ‘A Bit Of Me’ album really was a brilliant experience, for many reasons, but mainly because it made me realise just how much knowledge I’ve accumulated over the course of my career in terms of how music is made and put together.”
“I understand the production side of things a lot more now, and I’ve developed a strong ear for exactly how I want a song to sound, so I’m really excited about doing more (music) in the future… in fact I feel like this next chapter is going to be all about singing and performing.”

To celebrate the songs release, Denise returned to her breakfast roots on Friday morning to co-host The Gaydio Big Breakfast on radio station Gaydio alongside presenter Dave Cooper.
Broadcast live from 7am–10am, the show served as a playful nod to Denise’s iconic presenting role on Channel 4’s legendary The Big Breakfast, and it comes almost 30 years since her very first appearance on the show.
Denise made her debut on the programme on September 2nd 1996 and quickly became a central figure, stepping into a main presenting role in early 1997 and going on to form a memorable partnership with Johnny Vaughan during one of the show’s most popular periods.
Speaking ahead of her appearance on the much loved radio show, Denise said: “It’s no secret how much I love The Big Breakfast, so I’m thrilled to be co-hosting the Gaydio breakfast show alongside Dave. Expect old school big brekkie antics and the first exclusive radio play of my new single ‘In The Evening’ ahead of this year’s Pride season. This is one breakfast you won’t want to skip.”
With Dave adding: “Denise is the perfect person for this! She’s breakfast TV royalty, she’s had an incredible career across both stage and screen, and she’s always had such a genuine, longstanding connection with the LGBTQ+ community. We’re leaning fully into the madness with her… big energy, big nostalgia and absolutely no idea what’s going to happen next. Exactly how breakfast should be.”
