Dave Hughes skin cancer: Hughesy emerges with five bandages, 45 stitches after latest removal

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes headed to his latest comedy show with five fresh bandages and 45 stitches.

“I had five skin cancers cut off today,” the broadcaster told his fans in a video shared on social media overnight.

The clip showed Hughes shirtless with bandages on his chest, back and both arms, preparing to drive to his show in Cowes, Victoria.

“It’s a two-and-a-half hour drive away, I’ve gotta get there tonight, the people need me,” he quipped as he pulled on a football jersey and got into his car.

“If I don’t go, they don’t have fun and I don’t get paid. But you know what? It’s a gig economy, I could have a month off but I can’t.”

The comedian captioned the video, “What’s 45 stitches between friends? The Big V erases the pain.”

This is far from Hughes’ first brush with skin cancer.

The comedian has previously undergone surgery, including in 2016 and 2020, to remove them.

“I got my skin checked and had a couple of cancers cut out,” he told the Herald-Sun in 2020 following the second procedure.

“There were parts that had to be sliced and diced, but I’m all good.

“My skin is not meant for this climate, I always joke I should be in Ireland picking potatoes.

“My wife [Holly] is always is banging on to me about getting my skin checked. She wants to keep me alive, which is nice.”

Under the new video, Hughes’ followers wished him well and heeded the sun safety message.

“Good reminder mate to go and get my skin checked again,” one wrote, while another commented, “Wear sunscreen kids”.
