Charlize Theron celebrated Mother’s Day by sharing a rare glimpse at life with her daughters, Jackson,14, and August,11.
The actress posted a series of photos on Instagram with the first one showing the trio spending time together on a boat outing with friends. In the pictures, Theron smiled alongside her daughters while enjoying the day on the water.
“The greatest honor of my life! Happy mother’s day to all moms, oumas and godmothers,” she wrote in the caption.
Theron has rarely shared photos of her daughters publicly, but she has often spoken about motherhood and raising her children as a single mom. The actress adopted Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015.
Last year, while appearing on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Theron explained why becoming a single mother was one of the “healthiest” decisions she ever made.
“With women, it’s always, like, something must be wrong with her. She can’t keep a man, and it’s never part of the discussion of like, ‘Wow. She’s really living her truth,’” she said.
She also opened up about the freedom she has found parenting on her own terms.
“I look at them and just be like, ‘Do you know how f—ing great it is to live exactly how I want to live, to experience motherhood exactly how I wanted to experience it?’” she shared.
Theron added that she appreciates not having to “run every f—— thing by a guy” and said she feels she has “broke the cycle.”
The actress has also spoken about teaching her daughters responsibility as they get older. During a recent appearance on the “Therapuss with Jake Shane” podcast, she joked that their first cars would not be luxury vehicles.
“First of all, your first car is going to be a Datsun because you’re going to crash it,” Theron said. “We need a little bit of experience, and we’re going to earn it.”
