Bimini Launches New Era With Defiant Single ‘TANK TOP BUM BOYS’ and Independent Label Debut

Bimini is entering a bold new chapter. The musician, model, and cultural provocateur has released ‘TANK TOP BUM BOYS’, the first single from their forthcoming debut album and the inaugural release on BRAIN RIOT RECORDS, the independent label they founded after stepping away from the major-label system earlier this year.

A high-voltage collision of UK drum and bass, riot punk, and queer rave culture, the track embodies what Bimini calls “Electro C*nt Punk” – a genre-blurring sound that channels both rebellion and celebration. It also serves as a statement of intent for an artist determined to operate on their own terms.

The song’s title reclaims a phrase historically used as a slur against working-class queer men in Britain. Most notably, the term appeared in a 1998 newspaper column by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Rather than shy away from its history, Bimini has transformed it into a rallying cry.

“Tank Top Bum Boy is a slur,” Bimini said in a statement. “People used it to tell us we were ridiculous, that we didn’t belong, that we should be embarrassed by what we were. I named my first single after it and put it on my own label.”

The release arrives amid an increasingly charged political climate for LGBTQ+ communities in the UK. Bimini has been vocal about the timing of the single, positioning it as both a celebration of queer identity and an act of resistance. “The Supreme Court just ruled that trans people aren’t protected under the Equality Act. Reform UK is banning Pride flags from public buildings,” the ‘IF YOU GET IT YOU GET IT’ states. “There are people out there who’d rather I made something they could ignore. I’m not interested in that.”

‘TANK TOP BUM BOYS’ is the first in a run of releases leading up to Bimini’s debut album, which will again arrive via BRAIN RIOT RECORDS. The launch of the label marks a significant shift for the artist, who spent the last four years signed to a major label before choosing an independent path.

According to Bimini, the move was driven by a desire for greater creative freedom after growing frustrated with expectations to deliver commercially safer, more brand-friendly music. The label now also provides a platform for the artist to pursue a more uncompromising vision.

If ‘TANK TOP BUM BOYS’ is any indication, that vision is loud, confrontational, and unapologetically queer. With a debut album on the horizon and complete control over their creative direction, Bimini’s latest release feels less like a single and more like the opening shot of a new movement.
