It didn’t take a lie detector test for Ben Stiller to admit where the Meet the Parents franchise went wrong, as he promotes the upcoming sequel Focker-In-Law.
The Emmy-winning actor conceded in a social media post that not all the comedy sequels were hits, specifically throwing the 2010 third installment Little Fockers under the bus when a fan asked if they needed to see all the films to appreciate the fourth, premiering Nov. 25 in theaters.
“No! But I stand by the first two,” wrote Stiller on X of Meet the Parents (2000) and Meet the Fockers (2004).
When asked what went wrong with Little Fockers, Stiller replied, “We always try. Fully.”
Stiller’s posts came hours after he and co-star Robert De Niro appeared at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they revealed the first trailer for the upcoming Universal sequel.
This time around, Skyler Gisondo and Beanie Feldstein play Greg (Stiller) and Pam’s (Teri Polo) now-grown kids, Henry and Samantha, with the plot revolving around Henry’s pending nuptials to another newcomer, Olivia, played by Ariana Grande, who rubs her future father-in-law the wrong way.
Ever-suspicious Jack (De Niro) is back with his lie detector, which Olivia passes, winning a place in the “circle of trust.” But there’s more to the bride-to-be than meets the eye.
