Barry Gibb’s family forced to confirm Bee Gees icon is alive and well after death hoax

Australian music legend Barry Gibb is alive and well, despite a viral Facebook page suggesting he had died.

The Bee Gees singer was the subject of a new page titled R.I.P. Barry Gibb, which quickly amassed 1 million followers after it popped up on Sunday.

Burt fans don’t need to worry about 79-year-old musician, with his family confirming he’s fine right now.

Gibb, the last living member of the musical group, is ”healthy, happy, and living life” in Miami, his family reportedly told TMZ.

The page appears to have since been deleted but is understood to have contained a lengthy but entirely false story of the singer’s death.

It’s the latest celebrity death hoax, with the online trend previously targeting the likes of Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Seth Rogan, Tom Hanks and Michael J. Fox.

Barry rose to worldwide fame in the late ’60s alongside his younger brothers, twins Robin and Maurice Gibb.

They went on to sell hundreds of millions of records and had hit songs including How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive.

Maurice died in January 2003, aged 53, after going into cardiac arrest after complications from surgery for a twisted intestine.

Robin tied in May 2012, aged 62, from liver and kidney failure after a long battle with colorectal cancer.

The now 79-year-old spoke about the “emotionally crippling” effects he’s felt since losing his brothers - especially their youngest brother, solo popstar Andy Gibb, who died aged 30.

Legends of the music world, then and now

“After losing Andy, that was crippling emotionally for all of us, for the whole family, and it wasn’t something you could understand, that someone could be there and gone in two days,” Gibb said on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in 2017.

“I think he knew maybe for a few weeks that something was wrong and then it became very sudden.”

Gibb has also previously said in interviews that he doesn’t understand how he, as the oldest brother, is the “last man standing”.
