Brazilian Carlos Prates could be on his way to a shot at the UFC welterweight title after an outstanding striking performance against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Fight Night Perth.
Prates unleashed a barrage of punches, kicks and elbows to earn a third-round stoppage and condemn Della Maddalena to a second straight defeat, after the Australian last year lost the welterweight belt in a one-sided thrashing by Islam Makhachev.
Earlier, there was better news for the parochial home fans as Quillan Salkilld earned his own TKO victory over Beneil Dariush, the rising Australian lightweight landing a huge right hook flush on his American opponent’s chin and then moving in to finish the fight with some ground and pound.
