Gwyneth Paltrow has declared she is “one of the original nepo babies”.
Gwyneth Paltrow was an original nepo baby
The Marty Supreme actress – who is the daughter of actress Bluthe Danner and late producer and director Bruce Paltrow – joked she received a lot of opportunities early in her career because of her family connections, but insisted that didn’t mean she has always had an easy ride.
Speaking on stage at the 2026 New York Women in Film and Television Muse Awards on Friday (20.03.26), the Goop founder said: “I was extraordinarily lucky to be given opportunities early on, probably partly because I’m one of the original nepo babies, but I would be lying if I said that that made my path clear.
“There were many moments when the industry made it very plain that women are expected to stay in their lane and to be graceful and quiet and above all to be one thing. And I’ve never been very good at being one thing.”
The 53-year-old actress’ mom was in the audience, and Gwyneth took a moment to pay tribute to Blythe, 83, for all the career lessons she has learned from the Meet the Parents star.
She said: “Mom, you showed me what it looks like to commit fully to a craft, to be insanely creative and brave in your choices onstage, and to carry yourself with so much grace, even when sometimes this industry doesn’t make it so easy. So thank you.”
Gwyneth also offered a shout-out to husband Brad Falchuk and her 19-year-old son Moses Martin, whose father is her former spouse Chris Martin.
She added: “When we talk about women supporting women, which matters enormously, we also want to acknowledge the gorgeous, thoughtful, and loving men who show up for us and fill our hearts with love.”

However, they weren’t the only men to have a big influence on her life. Gwyneth previously shared how her father Bruce, who died in 2002 at the age of 58 after being diagnosed with throat cancer, helped her career.
Gwyneth has previously admitted she was a “very privileged kid” and had a lot of advantages growing up.
She told The Hollywood Reporter in December: “I grew up on the Upper East Side, and I went to a great school and all the things.”
