James Van Der Beek wife Kimberly marks three months since his death from cancer

James Van Der Beek’s grieving widow has broken her silence to mark the three-month anniversary of the Dawson’s Creek star’s death.

Kimberly Van Der Beek, a former actress turned mother-of-six and podcaster, had been absent from Instagram for more than two months before marking the milestone with a post containing a series of photos of the late star in happier times.

But while she said she was “heartbroken” by his tragic death at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer, she also said she could “feel him”.

“Yesterday was three months since we lost @vanderjames,” Kimberly wrote. “To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement.

“Words just don’t capture what grief is. The comforts of shock have worn off. The reality is settling in… and I miss him. We all miss him.

“Yet, there is a different kind of magic in the air. I feel him. I know him more deeply. My conscious connection to God has deepened. The veils of the universe have thinned.

“And I trust that this is the path me and my family have always been intended to walk.”

Kimberly said the “outpouring of support” had been tremendous in the wake of the actor’s death.

“It’s held our family in the most beautiful of ways,” she wrote.

“You all went absolutely above and beyond anything I could have ever expected in supporting us and honouring James. I am deeply grateful.

“There is so much more to share here. And in time I will.”

Van Der Beek died on February 11 in his adopted home of Texas, with his wife announcing his death on Instagram.

“He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace,” she wrote.

“There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.

“For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer in August 2023, when he was 46.

He announced his diagnosis the following November 2024 in an emotional interview with People.

“What do you do when you are staring down a stage three diagnosis?” he said at the time.

“This is either going to take me out of the body or teach me how to truly live in it.”

He battled the disease courageously, even going back to work briefly, but he was forced to pull out of a live script reading with the cast of Dawson’s Creek to raise funds for the charity F Cancer.

Instead, he appeared via video link at the September 2025 event, but his frail appearance alarmed fans.

His final Instagram post came just two weeks before his death and was a birthday message for one of his six children and father, who shared the same birthday.

Following his death, a GoFundMe was set up to help raise money so Kimberly and their children could stay in the ranch in Austin, Texas, that the actor had purchased just a month before his death after renting it for more than five years.

Celebrity pals of James Van Der Beek, including legendary director Steven Spielberg, helped raise $3.5 million after it was revealed the cost of cancer treatment had taken its toll.
