Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is finally out and it’s got everyone talking – even the estate of late singer George Michael.

In a post on George’s official social accounts, his team shared a message approving of Taylor’s version of ‘Father Figure.’

“We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael’s classic song ‘Father Figure’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album. When we heard the track, we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists and we know George would have felt the same.”

George’s estate also wished Taylor every success with her album and the song.

The original ‘Father Figure’ was released by the late singer in 1987. It was the fourth single from his debut album, Faith, and yes, us 80s babies still know every word!

Taylor is one of a number of artists who have used the song in their work – others include Destiny’s Child who added elements of ‘Father Figure’ to their 2001 song ‘Winter Paradise’ and LL Cool J did too in his 1997 song, ‘Father’.

Taylor’s album The Life of a Showgirl, her 12th studio album, also pays tribute to another icon too – there’s a sparkling pop track titled ‘Elizabeth Taylor’.
