The Dallas Cowboys now sit on the verge of playoff elimination. Following their 44-30 road loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, the team fell back to .500 on the season with just four games remaining. They saw all of the positive momentum from the last three weeks evaporate in the Michigan night air, as their playoff odds dropped to 9% ahead of this weekend’s remaining games.
The Cowboys are still two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the win column, the column that matters for teams with ties on their record. They now sit 10th in the NFC in a race for one of the seven playoff spots, moving their goal from winning out and hoping others stumble, to now needing a couple of teams to collapse down the stretch.

The only silver lining exists for those who didn’t put much stock into the team’s chances, and who have been looking towards the offseason and roster management. With the loss, the Cowboys now sit at No. 13 in draft order for their own pick, thanks to their 6-6-1 record falling “behind” all the other teams with six or more wins.
Thanks to the Micah Parsons trade at the end of the offseason, Dallas does have the Green Bay Packers’ selection. Green Bay is currently second in the NFC North, so the projection based on their 8-3-1 record has them as the 27th overall pick.
The Jimmy Johnson Trade Value chart assigns 1150 points for the No. 13 pick, and another 680 for No. 27. Combined points of 1830 pts is around the equivalent of the No. 4 overall pick (1800 pts), which is currently owned by the Las Vegas Raiders ahead of this weekend’s action.
Dallas could of course keep the picks, or move backwards with one or both of those selections. The Cowboys currently don’t have a second round, or third-round pick, thanks to their trade acquisitions of Quinnen Williams (Jets) and George Pickens (Steelers), respectively.
