TRENDING RUMORS
– Rodri is Real Madrid’s preferred midfield target this summer, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, but Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton remain in their sights should a deal for the Manchester City midfielder fail to come to fruition. Madrid have shown a long-standing interest in Rodri, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 but has since suffered from long-term knee and hamstring injuries. According to Football Insider, a bid of around £50 million would be enough to convince City to allow Rodri’s exit from the club.
– Yan Diomande is among the most sought-after teenagers in world football, but RB Leipzig have not given up hope of keeping him longer and plan to offer him an improved contract, according to Sky Sports Germany. The club reportedly want €100 million in any deal this summer should he leave, with Liverpool linked with him to replace departing legend Mohamed Salah.
– Juventus have been monitoring a move for Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte, reports Gazzetta dello Sport. Juve sporting director Marco Ottolini will be in attendance for Uruguay’s friendly with Algeria on Tuesday night to watch him in action. Ugarte hasn’t been a regular starter since joining United from Sporting CP and faces an uncertain future amid links with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali.
– Cristiano Ronaldo is trying to convince Casemiro to join him in the Saudi Pro League, according to Marca. The Brazil midfielder has announced he will leave Manchester United at the end of his contract this summer, making him available as a free agent. Recent reports have stated that Inter Miami could be one possible destination, which would see him link up with Lionel Messi, but his former Madrid teammate Ronaldo is trying to convince him elsewhere.
– Newcastle have agreed a deal in principle to sign Independiente del Valle’s 16-year-old Ecuadorian winger Johan Martinez, reports Fabrizio Romano. The teenage forward would not join Newcastle until he turns 18 years old, instead remaining at the club that has previously produced the likes of Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo and Arsenal defender Piero Hincapié.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s resident scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen explains what makes teenage RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande so sought-after:
Diomande’s first season at Leipzig has marked him out as one of the most eye-catching young attackers in Europe, and he is a natural target for the big spending teams. Deployed on both wings, Diomande’s impact is mainly seen from his ability to drive forward from wide areas.
He is particularly effective when moving inside, where his quick changes of direction, excellent balance, admirable determination, lightning-quick first step and close control make him difficult for markers to get to grips with.
Although the defensive side of his game remains a work in progress, the scale of his breakthrough has already drawn sustained attention from some of the biggest clubs, with Bayern Munich reported to be in the running. Though his transfer fee is likely to be around €80 million.
