Random Ramsdom: Team ready to move off Stetson Bennett?

Maybe I’ll write up something quick this week asking Should the Los Angeles Rams move off of Stetson Bennett? Either way, if the Rams are planning on nabbing Kirk Cousins or Jimmy Garopollo as their backup, where does that leave Bennett?

It’s not that Bennett is expected to beat out Cousins or Garopollo, longtime players, but if the Rams are already hoping to sign one or the other to backup Matthew Stafford, then is Bennett going to be a cut candidate this offseason? Has he done enough to hold down a spot on the roster? Do the Rams trust Bennett to play in NFL games in any meaningful way?

I don’t know, and it’s something I’ve been thinking about since yesterday. Maybe some of you have been thinking about Bennett and his fit on the roster longer. We’d love to hear from you!

I will say my friends and myself did win some Super Bowls this year (in Madden) with Bennett at the helm, so nothing but love from me. Bennett is etched in friendship immortality as far as I (and my friends) concerned.

I don’t actually have friends. I should’ve saved that whole story for April 1st.

Well, here we are on a Tuesday. Thank you for checking out Turf Show Times and have a great day! The march towards Friday continues.

“Absolutely,” stated McVay. “I love Jimmy. I would absolutely want him back. I did see those reports too on [Cardinals Head Coach] Mike [LaFleur] trying to steal our guy, but no Jimmy’s a really good player and so we would love him back. I’m sure he’ll have multiple opportunities and then we’ll see where we’re at. He’s been tremendous for the last couple of years. We’ve loved everything he’s about.”

“Head coach Sean McVay made an eyebrow-raising statement on it.

“Hey, I’d love to have Jimmy Garoppolo back with us,” McVay said via the team’s website. “That’s a big deal for us. He’s earned the right to be able to take his time and do whatever he wants. Is there an opportunity to explore, if it’s not Jimmy, (like) Kirk Cousins? Of course. I’d love to be able to be able to see what that looks like. So those are two guys we’ve talked about.”“

“Sean McVay concedes that LA is considering both quarterbacks for 2026. And if you read Ramblin Fan articles, you already know this. Los Angeles is being very cautious about the quarterback room right now, because whoever assumes the backup role now has the pole position to start for the team in 2027. Who is the better starter?

37-year-old Cousins averages 29 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 4,367 yards, and a completion rate of 66.7 percent over a 17-game season. 34-year-old Garoppolo averages 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 3,166 yards, and a completion rate of 67.4 percent over a 17-game season. Neither has youth as an advantage over the other.“

“Lots of slow headlines happening in NFL free agency. We will just create some imaginary trades for the Rams to make happen. It definitely gets people’s reactions. The only one I haven’t totally thrown out yet is on AJ Brown. Till he is with someone else I don’t totally count the Rams out yet.” -ricker
