The BRIT Awards 2026 have announced that legendary artist Noel Gallagher is the recipient of this year’s Songwriter of the Year award.
This award recognises exceptional songwriting talent, and is decided by a select panel of expert judges, with previous recipients including Ed Sheeran, Kid Harpoon, RAYE and Charli xcx.
Noel’s songwriting has permeated the fabric of British culture for over 30 years, from his work with Oasis to his solo albums with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. His songs span generations and continue to resonate with audiences around the world.
2025 was a huge year for Noel and his brother Liam as they finally ended 16 years of speculation by returning to the stage as Oasis. Their tour was a global success with 41 electrifying performances packed with songs from their huge back catalogue including ‘Live Forever’, ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, and ‘Champagne Supernova’.
Alongside Liam, Noel has multiple BRITs to his name so far, with Oasis taking home awards including Best British Group, Album of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Music. Noel’s songwriting has also been recognised by the Ivor Novello Awards, taking home the prestigious Outstanding Song Collection award in 2013.

The BRIT Awards will be broadcast live on Saturday 28th February, exclusively on ITV and ITVX. Presented by Jack Whitehall, the ceremony will include performances by Olivia Dean, Harry Styles, Wolf Alice, and Outstanding Contribution to Music recipient Mark Ronson.
This year’s ceremony will be taking place outside of London for the first time in its history, making a new home for itself at The Co-op Live in Manchester.
