A contestant on the upcoming season of Drag Race: Philippines has died aged 27 in her sleep.
Misua, also known as Jayson Elvie Ty, passed away on the morning of April 2, according to an Instagram post by production company World of Wonder, which is responsible for the production of the original RuPaul’s Drag Race and its global versions.
Along with a photo of the late contestant, they shared a statement about her passing.

“We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season four of Drag Race Philippines passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2.
“She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed,” they said.
“We have paused production to care for and support our cast and crew during this incredibly difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her. We are in contact with her family who have asked for privacy during this hard time.”
Other stars from Drag Race franchises around the world commented on the loss.
“Sending so much love,” wrote judge of the US version, Michelle Visage.
“Devastating! Sending all my love to everyone involved,” Drag Race UK contestant Blu Hydrangea commented.
“Sending so much love and light to Misua and her family,” Drag Race US finalist Sapphira Cristal added.
Fans implored the production house to keep Misua’s footage in the series out of respect.

“Pls don’t edit her out the episodes this is her dream and we need to honor her artistry and love for drag,” one fan requested,
“It would be an amazing tribute for her and her art if she remains in the season,” another added.
Misua’s family also paid tribute to her, sharing on Facebook, “Jayson was our dearly loved son, brother, friend, mentor, and most of all, Jayson is a star.
“He will be greatly missed by his loving family and close friends.”
