Singer-songwriter Maisie Peters has unveiled her latest track ‘My Regards’, a further insight into her forthcoming third album Florescence.
The track is very much a standout offering from Maisie, and is one of her most powerful yet. Combining elements of the classic love song trope, country music, and Maisie’s cheeky lyricism, ‘My Regards’ showcases the artist at her most confident and offers yet another dimension to her multifaceted songbook.
Speaking about the track, Maisie said: “‘My Regards’ feels powerful, tongue in cheek, sexy and funny, all of which I feel are parts of myself I hadn’t really gotten to explore much musically up until this album! I was inspired by a lot of the country greats and their ‘stand by your man songs’, and so I thought I’d write my own modern day version; however in this song I get to play the role of fierce protector instead of simpering love interest, which is so often how women have been depicted in relationships throughout history.”
The track comes accompanied by an epic visual which stars Overcompensating creator Benito Skinner. It was also directed by Amelia Dimoldenberg, who recently shot the Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging promo for Florescence featuring Georgia Groome.
Paying homage through the lyric “Call me Kevin Costner the way I’m guarding his body”, the video channels the 1992 movie The Bodyguard with Maisie taking on the role of the protector. The visual feels like it could be an older sister to Maisie’s ‘Psycho’, plus, she demonstrates a new dance routine that we’re gearing up to learn!
Of the video, Amelia said: “Directing this music video for Maisie has been an absolute joy. From the moment I heard the track, I knew we had to lean into her gift for storytelling. I thought it would be interesting to subvert the ‘possessive girlfriend’ trope by making Maisie a literal bodyguard. It felt like a fun way to heighten the narrative.”
