Sophie, whose real name was Madeleine Wickham, was behind the Shopaholic book series and countless other romcom-style novels including Undomesticated Goddess and Can You Keep a Secret? In 2000, Sophie published Confessions of a Shopaholic which was made into a movie almost a decade later.

Sophie’s family revealed on social media earlier today that she passed away from an aggressive form of brain cancer:

“We can’t imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life. Despite her illness, which she bore with unimaginable courage, Sophie counted herself truly blessed – to have such wonderful family and friends, and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career. She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received.”

Sophie was 55.
