These are just some of the beautiful lyrics from Niall Horan’s new song, “End of an Era”, from the upcoming album, Dinner Party: We had it / Pure magic / Remember what it was like / Time passes / So fast and / I couldn’t tell you goodbye – and yes, it’s got everyone wondering whether the song is about Niall’s late friend and former One Direction band mate Liam Payne.
Niall recently answered the question himself in an interview with GQ when he opened up about Liam’s passing. He shared that he “went into hiding a little bit”, particularly after Liam’s funeral in November, 2024, so he could mourn privately.
It was then that he co-wrote the lyrics for the song. It was all part of his grieving process.
Niall tells the publication, “I just remember getting a message. And I was just like, ‘What?’… I just didn’t think it was real. Someone so young, you’re not expecting to hear that they’ve passed, especially someone that you’ve just seen. I just went back from shock to sadness to anger.”

Liam had attended Niall’s concert on October 2 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, just two weeks before his tragic passing. It was on October 16, 2024, that news of Liam’s death broke. He had fallen multiple stories from a hotel balcony, while staying in Argentina. He was 31 years old.
