It’s safe to say Aussie actress Sarah Snook was not prepared to take a Critics Choice Award home with her this year.
The star of All Her Fault appeared visibly flustered as she ascended the stage to accept her award for Best Actress in a Limited Series, having not prepared a speech before being announced the winner.
Snook admitted she’d gotten distracted both before and during the awards show, and had given no thought to what she’d say if she won the coveted award.
In her impromptu acceptance speech, she Succession star admitted to having frantically run through potential talking points in the car on the way to the event after “forgetting” she was about to attend the awards show as a nominee.
“I didn’t write a speech or anything, and I’m just trying to go through some things now,” the star told her husband during the trip.
“And then I forgot when we got here again, ’cause it was so nice to see everybody, and now I’ve gotten up here, and I’m regretting all of it,” she sheepishly admitted.
The Adelaide-born actress then appeared to panic upon realising she had six seconds left of her allotted time, and hurriedly rattled off her list of acknowledgements.

“Thanks very much. This is really great. Thank you! Bye!” she concluded her speech.
Snook, who also has Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards to her name, was in good company in her award category, nominated alongside the likes of Jessica Biel, Meghan Fahy, Michelle Williams, Robin Wright and Renée Zellwegger.
She is best known for her role in hit series Succession, in which she plays one of four siblings battling it out to take over their father’s global media empire.
All Her Fault, the show for which Snook was nominated, also received nods in the Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series and Best Limited Series categories, respectively.
Snook portrays Marissa Irvine in the hit thriller, an affluent mother who arrives to collect her five-year-old son, Milo from a playdate, only to find he had never been there in the first place.
As she and her family begin the frantic search for the boy, fingers are pointed at Irvine, whose nanny becomes the prime suspect in the ongoing case.

Snook wasn’t the only Aussie star to take home a Critics Choice Award – Jacob Elordi won Best Supporting Actor for Frankenstein.
The Brisbane-born actor began his speech in a classically Aussie way.
“Bloody hell. I really didn’t plan for it,” the 28-year-old said.
“Thank you, Guillermo del Toro. I love you. We all love you. You made my dreams when I was 11. I’m so happy to be here.”
