Chris Hemsworth has labelled his move to ditch LA life to shift his family to Byron Bay “the greatest decision”.
Speaking to Will Arnett, Sean Hays and Jason Bateman on the SmartLess podcast, Hemsworth recalled why he and wife Elsa Pataky chose to move back to Australia.
“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it,” he revealed.
“Nothing was shooting there, we were filming kind of everywhere else.”
Arnett sympathised immediately suggesting if you’re travelling a lot for work, you can realistically live anywhere you want to.
Hemsworth agreed, adding that the goldfish-bowl lifestyle of LA didn’t appeal to either of them either.
“Then … you’d come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that space,” he said.

“And moved back to Australia and that just, it’s been the greatest decision because it’s such a – it’s like you know when you you come back from work you want to go on a holiday – coming home for me is feels like a holiday.
“We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf.”
Hemsworth and Pataky have three kids together. Daughter India was born in London in 2012, while twin sons Sasha and Tristan were born in LA in 2014 before the family moved to Byron Bay later that same year.
Hemsworth said his kids now have a similar lifestyle to what he had growing up with his famous brothers Luke and Liam Hemsworth just outside of Melbourne.

“We lived about 20 minutes from like the main sort of suburban areas in Melbourne, up in the hills and the nearest neighbour was a kilometre or two away and it was just all bushland and rainforest sort of set-up around us,” the Thor star told the hosts.
“And so would just spend [time] outdoors, adventures and playing different characters and I think that’s, to be honest, where the sort of intrigue or interest into that you know transportation into another [world].”
During the wide-ranging interview, to promote his latest movie, action-thriller Crime 101, Hemsworth also spoke about his time growing up in the Northern Territory outback.

He recalled his first acting role was on Australian-Canadian show The Saddle Club, where he came in as an 18-year-old vet. But Luke was the first brother of the trio to get an acting job – landing a role on Neighbours.
Liam eventually followed suit and landed on the same Aussie soap, with Chris making a name for himself on the opposition, Home And Away.
