Real Madrid superstar offers key update on injury situation: ‘I found a good diagnosis’

Kylian Mbappe’s recent knee injury limited his availability for Real Madrid for nearly a month, and he returned only against Manchester City in the second leg of their UCL matchup.

The Frenchman worked hard to ensure that he was back at his 100% for the big games before the international break, and there was an element of worry that he was pushing too hard and risking his long-term fitness.

After all, some reports around his knee injury even recorded surgery as an option, making it clear that his setback was not a minor one.

Mbappe’s interview

Speaking to the media in a recent interview, the Real Madrid star opened up about his injury and how he struggled to reach the right diagnosis for his setback.

“I went through a lot of frustration, anger, and anxiety at one point, because I didn’t know what I was suffering from,” he began.

“A lot of people offered diagnoses, and even until recently, I didn’t have a clear diagnosis. I heard a lot of things: surgery, won’t be able to play again,” he added.

Speaking on when and where he got a satisfactory diagnosis, he revealed it was not in Spain or with the club doctors but with trusted referrals in his country.

“My knee? I’m 100% recovered. In Paris, I found a good diagnosis.

“I’m fine with my knee. There has been a lot of speculation, false things have been said,” he added.

On the World Cup and National Team

The Frenchman was then asked how he would manage his minutes with a FIFA World Cup coming up especially given his recent injury.

“There is no debate. I have played 2 World Cups, I have won one, and you have already seen how I have arrived, playing all the matches with my club,” he said, stating there will be no compromise.

Finally, Mbappe gave his thoughts on Zinedine Zidane likely taking over the reins of the French national team from Didier Deschamps after the World Cup.

“Zidane as the next France coach? The president and the federation are the ones who control the timing.”

“They will decide when the new coach will be announced. We’ll see who it will be, I don’t know (smiling),” he added.
