NFL insider explains why Bears make ‘a lot of sense’ for Maxx Crosby

The Chicago Bears are at the forefront of the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes, where they’ve reportedly shown interest in trading for the five-time Pro Bowler to bolster their pass rush.

While Crosby hasn’t formally requested a trade, things haven’t been the same since the Las Vegas Raiders shut him down for the final two games of the 2025 season. The growing belief is that Crosby will be traded this week, and the Bears have been “keeping tabs” on his availability. It was also reported that Chicago is Crosby’s preferred destination.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has been all over the Crosby trade rumors, where he was the first to link Chicago to the star pass rusher. During a recent podcast appearance, Breer doubled down naming the Bears as his predicted landing spot for Crosby.

“They’ve been looking for an edge rusher,” Breer said on the Monday Morning Quarterback. “They’ve got Montez Sweat on the other side. They were in the divisional round last year…they went toe-to-toe with the Rams.”

Breer’s SI colleague Conor Orr echoed his sentiments about Chicago being a good fit for Crosby.

“Now that’s a team that’s in a position to punch the accelerator and go for it,” Orr said. “That’s a team that makes a lot of sense.”

“I think the idea of doing that,” Breer added, “Chicago makes sense to me.”

But what would it cost to land Crosby? The Raiders reportedly are seeking a similar package to what the Dallas Cowboys got for Micah Parsons last year. But Breer believes it will cost at least a first-round pick and then something else. Las Vegas reportedly is interested in linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and wide receiver DJ Moore would be a dependable weapon for incoming rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Both of those players could be an addition (or additions) to a potential trade package for Crosby.

If the Bears truly are interested in making a move for Crosby, they’ll face stiff competition. According to Breer, the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams have also shown interest.
