BRIT Awards 2026: NZ born, Australian-raised singer Rosé becomes first K-Pop artist to win BRIT Award


New Zealand-born and Melbourne-raised singer Rosé has made BRIT Awards history.

The Blackpink singer took home the International Song award for her duet Apt. with Bruno Mars the first K-Pop solo artist to win at the annual awards show, held on Saturday night (Sunday morning AEDT).

“It is such an honour to be receiving this award in front of so many talented and admirable musicians in the UK,” Rosé said on-stage.

“There’s so many people I need to thank – firstly, Bruno, I am receiving on behalf of the both of us, thank you for being my biggest mentor and best friend.”

Aussies Tame Impala missed out on joining an elite group of BRIT Award winners after American band Geese won the Best International Group trophy.

The Perth-born band first won the award in that category at the UK’s answer to the Grammy Awards, back in 2016.

They were hoping to join the ranks of U2, Foo Fighters, R.E.M., Fontaines DC, who have all won the category multiple times.

The 26-year-old fresh off her Grammy win for Best New Artist took home Album of the Year for The Art Of Love, Artist of the Year, Best Pop Act and Song of the Year for her duet with Sam Fender, Rein Me In.

Going into the ceremony, which was held outside of London for the very first time in its 48-year history, it was actually two Londoners – Dean and Lola Young – leading the nominations with five each.

Young, 25, fresh from her Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy win took home Breakthrough Artist and made a joke about not having a speech prepared at the Grammys.

The American musician recalled his first meeting with British singer Amy Winehouse 20 years ago, saying “that night we wrote Back to Black and that day changed my life forever.”

Ozzy Osbourne was posthumously awarded the BRITs Lifetime Achievement award, which was accepted by his widow Sharon Osbourne and daughter Kelly Osbourne.

This was followed by a show-stopping closing tribute to the rocker, featuring Robbie Williams, Metallica guitarist Robert Trujillo and Black Sabbath musicians Adam Wakeman, Tommy Clufetos and Zakk Wylde.

Harry Styles opened the show, marking his debut live TV performance of music from his long-awaited new album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.

While other performers during the show, hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall, included Dean, Ronson, Wolf Alice, SOMBR, RAYE, Alex Warren featuring James Blunt and ROSALÍA featuring Björk.
