If you’re curious what Netflix viewers watched last week, it was mostly Frankenstein and Kpop Demon Hunters.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein stole the show with its debut last week, as evidenced by its monster viewership that dwarfed just about everything else on the platform by comparison, which we broke down here.
And despite new seasons of a few fairly popular series debuting in the last few weeks, the second most-watched title from November 3 to 9 was the 21-week-old Kpop Demon Hunters — not just second in English films but second overall across the entire weekly rankings — with 12.4M views. It’s also the 21st consecutive week that Kpop Demon Hunters has landed on the Top 10 rankings and, while it is showing signs of slowing its roll (marginally), it’s safe to expect that the animated film will continue to stick around the charts for a while longer.
Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite wasn’t too far behind at 10.2M views, good enough for third place. However, that’s pretty significantly down from the 30M+ views it got the week prior.
On the TV side, things were a bit lackluster during this interval, likely thanks to the influx of anticipated films that have been released as of late.
For example, The Witcher Season 4, which sees Liam Hemsworth replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, climbed to first place but maintained exactly the same viewership as the week prior with 7.4M views. Meanwhile, Nobody Wants This Season 2 was in second place, essentially halving its audience from the week prior with 4.8M views.
Third place went to a South African drama series called Bad Influencer, which tallied 3.4M views. Death by Lightning, which stars Michael Shannon as the 20th U.S. President James Garfield, premiered in fifth place with 3.2M views.
Squid Game: The Challenge also launched last week, landing at No. 6 with 3.2M views. Leanne Morgan’s comedy special Unspeakable Things got 3M, putting it at No. 7.
Continuing the trend from the week prior, Stranger Things continued to gain renewed traction ahead of Season 5’s debut. The first season grew to 2.8M views (up from 1.8M) to eighth place. It would not be surprising to see more seasons, which are among Netflix’s most-watched television seasons of all time, pop up as we near the release of the first four episodes of Stranger Things 5 on November 26.
