MLB playoffs 2025: Postseason bracket, schedule and results

October is here, and the 2025 MLB playoffs are underway. The 12-team bracket is set, and the postseason got started on Tuesday with four Wild Card Series Games: Guardians vs. Tigers, Cubs vs. Padres, Yankees vs. Red Sox and Dodgers vs. Padres. The Tigers, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers were all Game 1 winners, meaning the Guardians, Padres, Yankees and Reds were facing elimination on Wednesday. The Blue Jays, Mariners, Brewers and Phillies all earned byes and will start their postseasons on Saturday in the League Division Series.

For the first time under the current playoff format, we’ll see at least three Game 3s on Thursday. Cleveland beat Detroit 6-1 on Wednesday to force a do-or-die game between the AL Central rivals. The Padres then did the same against the Cubs, while the Yankees outdueled the Red Sox and sent their AL East matchup to Game 3 as well.

On Tuesday, The Tigers began the day with a low-scoring win over the Guardians as Tarik Skubal struck out 14 batters in 7 ⅔ innings. The Cubs got back-to-back homers from Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly and 4 ⅔ perfect innings from their bullpen to pull away from the Padres. The Red Sox got a dominant outing from Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman worked out of a bases-loaded ninth-inning jam to push their rival Yankees to the brink of elimination. The Dodgers-Reds game saw the most offense of the day but even a bullpen meltdown wasn’t enough to keep Los Angeles from winning.

The best-of-three Wild Card Series are being held from Tuesday to Thursday, and the LDS round will kick off on Saturday.

Below is a look at the full 2025 MLB playoff bracket.
