What Did Susannah’s Letter Say in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’? – CelebrityKind || Positive Celebrity News | Movies TV Music Books

This post contains spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty, season 3, episode 7. If you have not watched it yet, what are you waiting for? Binge away! (And then come back here so we can chat about Susannah’s letter.)

It’s the scene that had us all bawling: Jeremiah receiving a letter from his late mum, Susannah, on his wedding day – a piece of her, and her beautiful cursive handwriting, right there, just for him.

Except there’s intense pain on his face when he reads it and we learn shortly after, the letter wasn’t for him at all. There was a mixup and Jeremiah received the letter that was meant for his brother, Conrad. *dramatic gasp*

A fight scene follows, and Jeremiah shoves the letter at Conrad, who is utterly confused as to why he’s getting Jeremiah’s letter, only to learn the letter is his, and now he’s holding a piece of his late mum and her thoughts on his relationship with Belly. *even more dramatic gasp*

So what exactly did the letter say? Author Jenny Han has shared a screenshot of the letter she composed in her iPhone notes during filming. And all I can say is, prepare to bawl once again:

Dear Conrad,

I can hardly believe my little bug is getting married today! I am just bursting at the thought that my beautiful boy has found the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

I only ever got to see you in love once, and for that I will always, always be grateful. Not just that I got to see you in love, but I got to see you be loved. Oh, the way she looked at you — it was like you were the only boy in the world. As a mother, there is no greater gift than to see her child be so dearly loved by another person. Today, if there is even a fraction of the love I saw then, I am more than happy. I am overjoyed.

Don’t be afraid to tell her every day how very much she means to you. Cook for her, be a good listener, don’t try to win every argument. Jewellery is always welcome. Pay attention to if she wears gold or silver. If she’s not a jewellery girl, then chocolate.

Loving you always and forever,

Mom

So yeah, are you crying yet?

Same girl, same.
