Vanderbilt is the No. 1 overall seed at the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament. USC was one of the last four at-large teams in the field.
On Monday morning, the bracket was revealed for this year’s NCAA Baseball Tournament. USC is in the field, heading to the tournament for the first time in a decade.
College Sports Wire noted that USC was one of the last four teams in the field, as relayed by ESPN on its selection show. This next point is worth noting:
“USC was down to its last out in the Big Ten Tournament pool-play game against Washington on Friday. The Trojans were not going to advance in the tournament. They were already eliminated from contention for the semifinals. Penn State, UCLA, and Iowa had already locked up berths, with Nebraska playing Oregon for the fourth semifinal slot. However, that one game against Washington was up for grabs. Had the Trojans not won it, they might have been left out. Adrian Lopez’s two-run double turned a 5-4 defeat into a 6-5 victory for USC. That one play might have made the difference between USC getting in and either UConn or SELA getting in.”
