History Channel, Obamas’ Higher Ground Debut ‘Reconstruction’ Podcast


The History Channel‘s Reconstruction: The Unfinished Promise, a collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and Malcolm Gladwell‘s Pushkin Industries, is debuting on Thursday on Audible, with plans for release on all podcast platforms from June 18 to July 16.

Gladwell hosts the podcast series, and Barack Obama provides commentary, as it examines the complex post-Civil War era in the United States and its complex legacy.

Obama said in a statement, “The Reconstruction Era was a brief but pivotal and turbulent chapter in our nation’s history – one that is often overlooked, even though its consequences are still felt today. In confronting this period honestly, I hope audiences can rediscover an essential part of our past and remember that even in moments of deep conflict and contradiction, persistence and perseverance remain powerful sources of hope.”

Also featured in the podcast series are s Jelani Cobb, Wyatt Cenac, David Blight, Kai Wright, Kellie CarterJackson, Ashley C. Ford, Manisha Sinha, Kidada Williams and Eric Foner.

The project is part of the History Channel’s History Honors 250 campaign, marking the semiquincentennial of the United States.
