Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham AFC is coming to Australia, and of course, the news was announced in true Ryan-style – with a friendly dig at his Aussie bestie Hugh Jackman!
“From the very beginning, we wanted to help make Wrexham a globally recognised team, town and brand. We could not be more excited to bring the Red Dragons to Australia and New Zealand, and we are particularly proud that this announcement features neither a ‘Men at Work’ or Hugh Jackman joke. The latter of which took maturity and tremendous restraint.”
The statement continued, “We’re proud of Ryan. Of course, we make no promises going forward.”

Rob and Ryan purchased the Welsh club in 2021, launched a Disney+ documentary series about it (Welcome to Wrexham) and along the way, made even the least interested of sports fans (*cough* me) fall in love with Wrexham’s story:
It is the oldest professional football club in Wales and the third-oldest in the world. It was struggling before its Hollywood owners took over, spending years in the lower leagues.
Last month, the team earned a record third consecutive promotion moving them from the National League to the English Championship, and a step away from the Premier League! Check out the tears and celebrations:
But perhaps the most heart-warming part of Wrexham’s story is that it’s brought so many people together. Fans young and old, a community of people who’ve found a renewed sense of pride in their local club. And a global audience highly invested in this Ted Lasso-esque tale coming to life!
