Ricky Martin is “safe” after tear gas was deployed during his concert in Montenegro.
Tear gas was deployed at a Ricky Martin concert
The Livin’ la Vida Loca star was performing in the country on Thursday night (21.05.26) when an incident in the audience led to the concert being halted and the singer was rushed off stage. Martin’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá has revealed the stoppage was due to a canister of tear gas being deployed near the stage, but the pop star was not hurt and he returned to the stage to finished the gig once the danger had passed.
Alcala posted a statement on Instagram with the caption: “Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro.”
The statement read: “During Ricky Martin’s concert tonight in Montenegro – where the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour – an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.
“As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.
“Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.”
Alcala went on to insist Martin’s tour will continue as planned, adding: “The artist will continue his Ricky Martin Live tour with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates as scheduled.”
Martin is scheduled to continue performing across Europe throughout June with dates scheduled in countries including Croatia, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.
It comes after Ricky opened up about bringing his kids on the road with him. He’s dad to twins Matteo and Valentino, 17, as well as Lucia, seven, and six-year-old Renn and he explained his eldest two first found out he was famous when they saw him on stage for the first time.
During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, he explained: “I have four kids, and I have twin boys … They’ve always been traveling with me, they homeschool.
“And when they were like five or six, I allowed them to go in front of the stage. For me, I thought it was too overstimulating, so they would always see me from backstage. So they went in front of the stage and when they came back, they said ‘Ah, got it Daddy, you are Ricky Martin!’ It was just so beautiful …
“‘You are Ricky Martin!’ But now, it’s ‘Whatever Dad, you did it wrong, you gotta to that again.”
The She Bangs hitmaker – who welcomed all of his children via surrogate – joked that it is all now a “different story” between himself and his kids and they frequently tell him that he “could have done better” following a performance but would rather they were honest than tell white lies to make him feel better.
He said: “Now, it’s a different story! They’re very specific, they tell you, they’re like ‘Mm, Dad, you could’ve done better. But they’re really nice, they’re really nice kids. I love them, and I want them to be honest. That’s what’s important, right? Just be pure, transparent, go for it.”
