Exclusive: “I would say Untouched is really fun, because it’s the song,” Lisa Origliasso of The Veronicas tells me about her favourite song of theirs to sing.
“It’s like the secret code… It’s cool to watch people have their own experience with it.”
She and twin sister Jessica Origliasso, both now 41, released their debut studio album The Secret Life Of… back in 2005 and are marking a milestone 21 years in the music industry since then.

It’s a huge feat for any artist and for the pair, who are known for songs including 4ever, Take Me on the Floor and You Ruin Me, recently thrilled fans performing with their band for Triple J’s Like A Version.
It’s fair to say that their songs were the soundtrack of a generation and even now, their songs are being introduced to younger – and newer – fans.
Untouched has even been affectionately dubbed the “unofficial national anthem”.

Reflecting on being in the music industry this long, they credited their fans for everything.
“Honestly, it’s so humbling and we feel so honoured. There’s a huge amount of patriotic love that Australia affords us,” Jessica tells nine.com.au.
“And I think that we could never have imagined being that lucky to be here.
“The pop industry over the last 20 years has changed so dramatically with the different forms of the way that we consume music now. You never know what’s gonna happen and I think for Lis and I, we just always connect to our love of songwriting and performing.”
And “authenticity” is a huge part of their music and what their fans love.
“I think that our fans, they feel that, and we’ve just always tried to be authentic to who The Veronicas are, and we just feel really honoured. And we have so much fun.”
“I think that when you have such a long career, there’s so many elements to the business. You can be having the greatest time ever and you can have hard times.
“And so, I think it’s just that that, finding that love and that authenticity to continue and to propel you forward because, I think that that your audience always knows.”
Lisa adds: ”Our love for music is what has been the driving force of continuing 21 years later and still loving what we do.”
Touching on their bond and going through everything they have together, Jessica says the pair are “best friends” and that they’re “blessed”.
“The strength that solo artists have to have. It can be very lonely when you’re touring,” she admits.
“We’re lucky in that we almost create these families with your band and your crew when you’re on such long tours and on different time zones and there’s a lot that happens.
“You’re in very close proximity and so for us to have our best friend to share basically everything with, I think a very rare opportunity and we’ve been so blessed to be able to have that.”
The Veronicas, who hail from Brisbane, said they grew up in a very musical household and found their passion for music at a young age.
“We were always surrounded by music. Our dad was in a band growing up. So we have music around the house. Our mum was always spinning records and taking us to shows that were in town,” Lisa says.
“We were musical theatre kids. That’s sort of, the love affair with music began very, very young for us. As soon as we could talk, we could, try to sing.”

Now, in an exciting move for fans, they’ve revealed they’re set to release new music soon.
”We feel very blessed that we’ve got to be here on the ground in Australia for a few months. We will be heading off to the states to start writing for a new record, a new Veronicas album,” Lisa says.
The pair are now selling some of their personal items and memorabilia on eBay, as eBay drops selling fees. Some of their items start at just $50.
The items include an Alexander McQueen scarf, a beloved guitar and even a cool witches scrying mirror they picked up in London.
“I’m sure you, you know, so you remember back in the early 2000s to mid 2000s, that scarf was the scarf. Every IT-Hollywood girl, and Lisa and I had quite a few of our own,” Jessica says with a laugh.
“Every colour combo imaginable,” Lisa adds.
“We have been avid collectors of a lot of different stuff over the years. We’ve been doing The Veronicas for 20 years, almost 21 years this year, and we’ve been lucky enough to travel the world in that 21 years,” Jessica says.
“And we have collected so many things!”
“We can finally review everything over the last 20 years, and maybe give some of these special items that we’ve collected, you know, a new life and a new home.”
