Brendan Gleeson has no advice for whoever will play Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody in the Harry Potter TV series.

The 71-year-old actor has encouraged the actor who lands the role of the famed Auror – nicknamed for his detachable eye – to make the character their own.

Asked if he has advice for the next person to play his alter ego, Brendan told People: “Absolutely not.

“Enjoy yourself, do your own thing.”

Brendan played Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

And the entertainer said starring in the movies did not “overly” impact his life.

In a 2011 interview with The Guardian, Brendan explained: “As unconventional as my looks are, they’re not quite as unconventional as Mad-Eye Moody’s, so I’ve kind of gotten away with murder.

“Robbie Coltrane told me I should forget about walking through airports again, but to be honest, it’s a bad idea to tell your 10-year-old to talk to me, because the poor child makes no connection with Mad-Eye Moody and he’s looking at me saying, ‘Why am I being asked to talk to a stranger?'”

However, the new HBO Harry Potter TV series, set to premiere in 2027, is set to change the lives of its young cast, including Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley).

And Daniel Radcliffe, 36, who played the titular wizard in the hit film franchise – based on 60-year-old J.K. Rowling’s novels – thinks Dominic will upstage him in the role.

In February, Daniel told ScreenRant: “I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me. I learned as I went. I look back on what I did now with a lot more kindness, and I find it less interesting now that I’m older. But I was very much learning how to do it for a long time on Potter.”

Each season of the Harry Potter show focuses on a book from the series.

As well as Dominic, Arabella and Alastair, it will also star John Lithgow, 80 (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer, 64 (Professor Minerva McGonagall) and Paapa Essiedu, 35 (Professor Severus Snape).
