Football really is life for this Ted Lasso star! Cristo Fernández, who portrays the delightful and highly skilled Dani Rojas on the hit Apple TV series, has signed on to a real life professional soccer club!
He’ll be playing for El Paso Locomotive FC, a U.S. second-tier club located in El Paso, Texas.
“Football has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart,” Cristo said (per BBC).
And no, this isn’t his first time playing professional soccer. Before his days on Ted Lasso, Cristo played for a youth team in his home city of Guadalajara, Mexico. He left the sport due to a knee injury and years later, ended up on one of the most loved TV shows in history where his catchphrase became, “football is life!”
It’s certainly a unique path back to professional soccer for Cristo but he’s embracing it and says it’s all about “believing in yourself, taking risks and continuing to chase your dreams, no matter how unexpected the path may be.”

Meanwhile, a new season of Ted Lasso is coming on August 5. This time, our favourite coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) is taking on a women’s soccer team.
Season 4 will see the return of most of the original cast including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift, place a bunch of new faces as well.
It’s unclear whether Cristo will be returning to the series.
