‘Avatar 3’ Sets Disney+ Release Date for ‘Fire and Ash’

Fan will have another chance to see the return of Jake Sully and his family when “Avatar: Fire and Ash” arrives on Disney+ on June 24.

This time, the Sully clan is at war with a fiery enemy Na’vi tribe on Pandora. The third film in James Cameron’s “Avatar” series stars Sam Worthington, along with returning cast members Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion and Edie Falco. Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis made their debuts in the series as new characters.

Following its release on Dec. 19, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has made $1.4 billion globally. It became Hollywood’s third blockbuster from 2025 to surpass the $1 billion mark, following two other Disney behemoths, May’s “Lilo & Stitch” remake and November’s “Zootopia 2.” With it, Cameron’s “Avatar” films became the highest-grossing film trilogy of all time.

The first “Avatar” was released in 2009 and became the highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office. It still holds that record, with a lifetime gross of over $2.9 billion. Its sequel, “Avatar: The Way of the Water,” came out over a decade later in 2022 and grossed $2.3 billion at the box office.

A fourth “Avatar” movie is already expected to be released in 2029, and a fifth in 2031. Cameron has spoken about the plans for his sequels and how they would jump ahead in time to age up the Sully children and further explore the wind traders introduced in “Fire and Ash.”
