Moby has defended “amazing” Billie Eilish after she described eating meat as “inherently wrong”.

Moby has defended Billie Eilish

The 60-year-old DJ and animal rights activist has praised the Bad Guy hitmaker, 24, and her brother FINNEAS, 28, for using their platforms to highlight social issues.

In an Instagram video, he said: “So last week Billie Eilish found herself in the middle of a media storm, and Billie Eilish and FINNEAS their mom Maggie used to be regulars at my restaurant Little Pine here in Los Angeles…

“And honestly I think they’re amazing. They’re smart and funny and creative.

“And what’s so impressive in watching Billie handle herself as this huge public figure is that she uses her platform not just for self promotion but to address important issues, even if it runs the risk of alienating her fans.

“It’s so impressive watching someone use social media and use media to draw attention to incredibly important issues and to really challenge people. So if I had children, I’d say be more like Billie.”

Moby opened his plant-based restaurant Little Pine in Los Angeles back in 2015, but the eatery closed its doors in late 2022.

Billie and FINNEAS’ mother Maggie Baird replied to his post, thanking him for the activism work he does.

She commented: “Thank you for all you do. And still miss Little Pine.”

Billie – who has followed a vegan diet since she was a child – sparked a major furore online after she insisted no one can “love animals” if they don’t limit themselves to plant-based food.

Asked what is the “one hill you’d die on”, she recently told ELLE magazine: “Eating meat is inherently wrong.

“Two things cannot coincide: ‘I love all animals so much and I eat meat’. Sorry – you could eat meat, go for it, you could love animals, but you can’t do both.”

She has since doubled down on her comments and urged her social media followers to watch videos of animals being slaughtered.

In a series of posts on Instagram, she wrote: “So stay f****** mad at me. I really don’t give a Goddamn f***.”

She went on to add: “Go watch a documentary or two and some footage of what is done to the animals u claim to love and what it does to the planet u pretend to love as well.

“If that footage was hard for u to watch, I encourage u to pls take a look at [yourself]. Like I am so tired of standing up for/having empathy for living beings being controversial.

“[Please] continue to live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance and denial and try to convince urself that [you’re] not living a lie.”
