Psychedelic Furs Cancel Tour Dates Due to ‘Serious Medical Issue’

New wave music fans will have to wait a little longer to get Pretty in Pink as The Psychedelic Furs have cancelled their spring and summer tour dates due to a “serious medical issue in the band.”

“One of our band members is undergoing urgent surgery. We are rescheduling select dates where possible. Stay tuned,” said a rep for the iconic British post-punk band. “The Furs are still scheduled to perform at the Darker Waves Festival in November. We thank all of the fans that have reached out with such gracious support,” the statement concluded.

The band’s update on Instagram Friday asked fans to “Please accept our deepest apologies for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at point of purchase.”

The Furs, who were formed in 1977 in London by led singer Richard Butler and his brother, bass guitarist Tim Butler, were scheduled to head out on tour in August with funk rock group Living Colour, hitting cities including New York, Chicago, Boston and Miami.

Though the band’s rep didn’t specify which band member was undergoing surgery, the band intends to be back in shape in time for the Nov. 15 Darker Waves festival in Huntington Beach, Calif., which is also set to feature Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Simple Minds and the Buzzcocks.

Also canceled are Midwest, Southern and West Coast dates for the Furs, which were due to start Tuesday in Minneapolis and continue to Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Rancho Mirage, Ojai and Del Mar in Southern California.

The band lost saxophonist Mars Williams in 2023 at 68 years old.
