Netflix Orders Australian Animated Series ‘Dad’s House’

Netflix has ordered an adult animated series titled “Dad’s House,” Variety has learned.

The show hails from showrunners and executive producers Michael Cusack (“Smiling Friends,” “YOLO”), Dario Russo (“Danger 5,” “Italian Spiderman,” “The Fox”), and David Ashby (“Danger 5,” “Italian Spiderman”). All three are also part of the voice cast of the series along with Felicity Ward (“The Office,” “Wakefield,” “The Inbetweeners 2”).

The logline for the show states, “In small-town suburban Australia, thirteen year old child of divorce, Sean, spends every second weekend with his laidback, but well meaning dad, Ian. Cramming quality dad-time into a single weekend is already a tall order — but Ian has a remarkable gift for making it so much harder than it needs to be.”

Princess Pictures and Bento Box Entertainment will produce the show. Cusack is repped by UTA and JSSK. Russo is repped by UTA. Ashby is repped by UTA.

Cusack is the creator of the Australian series “YOLO” and the co-creator of “Smiling Friends.” Both shows have aired on Adult Swim in the United States, with “YOLO” having aired three seasons and “Smiling Friends” airing three seasons and three short films.

Netflix’s current adult animation slate includes the upcoming series “Mating Season,” which hails from the team behind fellow Netflix series “Big Mouth.” Netflix also currently has shows like “DANG!,” “Alley Cats,” and “Haunted Hotel.” Last year, Netflix launched the series “Long Story Short” from “BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, which was renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere.
