Fresh from announcing her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, Olivia Rodrigo has released its lead single ‘drop dead’.
Produced by Dan Nigro and co-written with Amy Allen, ‘drop dead’ is the perfect encapsulation of a girl in the early stages of love. Olivia sings about the initial infatuation including stalking your crush online, and daydreams about how wonderful their relationship could be. “The most alive I’ve ever been / But kiss me and I might drop dead!”, she sings during the addictively dreamy chorus.
In true girlhood style, Olivia also references astrology, singing “Pisces and a Gemini, but I think we might go really nice together”. Whilst these two signs are normally considered to have low compatibility, Olivia is trying to ignore the preconceived notions of their relationship based on their star signs.
Describing the song on Instagram, Olivia said: “it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!”
‘drop dead’ comes with an accompanying music video directed by Petra Collins. The visual was shot in The Palace of Versailles and sees Olivia run around from room to room in the iconic venue. She later rocks out on the guitar with two others before continuing her frolic outside the palace.

Just last night (April 18), Olivia surprised fans by joining Addison Rae on stage during her Coachella performance. Olivia joined in with vocals on Addison’s track ‘Headphones On’ before asking the audience, “Coachella, how much do we love Miss Addison?”.
Addison replied, “Oh my god, I might just drop dead,” which led to Olivia giving the debut live performance of her new single.
‘drop dead’ is taken from Olivia’s upcoming third album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, due for release on June 12. Ahead of the album’s release, she will be undertaking double duty as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live on May 2. Whilst Olivia has performed on the show before, this will be her hosting debut.
