Britney Spears has voluntarily admitted herself to a rehabilitation facility following her DUI arrest last month.
A representative for the pop star confirmed the news to multiple US outlets in a “long overdue” first step.
Following her arrest last month, Spears has reportedly been “working on herself” – remaining sober and attending a number of AA meetings in the aftermath.

The pop singer had originally been taken into custody after being pulled over near her California home, but was later released after just three hours.
According to audio from an emergency call made to California police obtained by Us Weekly, Spears’ car had been driving “in and out of lanes” and speeding.
The call operator also noted that there had been erratic braking and swerving involved, as well as driving with no tail light.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a spokesperson for Spears shared in a statement following her release from police custody.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.” They added.
“Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”
The statement also revealed the singer’s two sons would be “spending more time with” her following her arrest.

Following the incident and before checking herself into rehab, Britney took to Instagram to post a video of her messing around with her 19-year-old son, Jayden.
In the clips in question, the Oops…I did it again singer is shown alongside her son, dancing around in the mirror as he films her.
Spears thanked fans for their ongoing support in the caption of the video, saying that “spending time with family and friends is such a blessing.”

The pop star is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
